POWER CORRUPTS BUT ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY.
my quote is from J.E.E Dalberg-Acton, a lecturer of modern history. i had the front Akzidenz Grotesk, which is a very simple font so at first i was a bit put out as it doesnt match the power of the quote given.
we have to design posters using the font and all 26 letters and punctuation of the alphabet to display the quote.
my quote is political, so i didnt want to be typical and do it on someone like George Bush. however, i like the word 'corrupt'. I began thinking of how someone can be corrupt in a way that doesnt affect a whole country, then Amy Winehouse came to mind. she has corrupted herself with drugs and excess, and the more fame (power) she gains the more corrupt she gets.
the word Absolute always makes me think of Absolut Vodka, whos adverts are always a simple concept but humerous and clever. I've done a design where the vodka bottle has cufflinks draped over the neck, and the quote is in the script writing on the label.
the alphabet in Akzidenz-Grotesk will be used in place of cross-hatching to make the background shaded in black and white. I want it to look like an old line-up photo of criminals, a black and white version of The Usual Suspects line up.
